When Irony Almost Stops Being Funny

I have to say, this is not the end of the world but you can take this exit and easily get there on the back roads.
Quick rundown. Man sees police activity in his neighborhood, takes picture of it, goes to jail.
WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE, PEOPLE?
I have been saying, “Time to move to Fiji.” Since George W. Bush was installed as President of this once-great-land. Once again, I say, with greater urgency, “Time to move to Fiji!”
Law enforcement and security types in all areas of all levels of government have been installing surveillance equipment all over these United States at a fever pitch. The reasoning went like this:
1. Security Cameras deter Terrorists and other criminals
2. If you’re not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to hide and, therefore, have nothing to fear.
If this is true, I think it is perfectly fair that the common citizenry should be taking pictures of the police. Especially considering all the brutality, torture, killing and so on that has been allegedly perpetrated by agents of the Bush Administration (lest we forget that the President is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, and, as such, is ultimately responsible for the conduct of those forces) in Iraq, Afghanistan, Gitmo and who knows where else.
We now live in a country where the meanining of “dispensing justice” has been perverted into meaning “dropping a five-hundred-pound bomb.” Our President has taken a comic book approach to justice. If you kill as suspect, the case is solved. Don’t get me wrong… Zarqawi probably did at least 60% of what Bush accused him of doing. Hussein’s getting a trial… probably because he was an old business partner from way back… Professional Courtesy, I guess.
If I didn’t live here, I’d find this hillarious.
