Guilt by Association: McCain Takes a Shot in the Pills
Well, it’s 11:10PM on November 4, 2008, and NBC, NPR, CNN and various other sites are calling the election for Barack Obama.
Holy crap… McCain has already conceded!
Electorally, McCain got spanked. The popular vote was decidedly closer, but still fairly decisive as of now.
Between his selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate and his extended (and strangely borderline sycophantic) cooperation with George W. Bush (remember him?), I think McCain has been hoist by his own petard.
…and then there’s McCain’s concession speech… or more importantly, the pointless and irritating chanting of the pitchfork-wielding mob he was addressing. McCain was graceful and conciliatory in defeat, but his supporters sounded a more than a little frightening.
All in all, with the condition the country is in, with the failing wars, the selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate, and McCain’s pledge to continue essentially all of Bush’s policies, there was no way he could have won.
Let’s see if this holds til the morning
